I wish the author would make a series of games for all of Shakespear's plays.. I really really really wanted this game to be good. But it's got quite a bit that would need to be improved to make this an amazing game. I love Shakespeare, and choose your own adventure games, and the artists involved are some of my favorites. The artwork is great, the sense of humor is funny, and the user interface is easy to understand. HOWEVER, you cannot save, you can't change the narration speed, and they do not explain some of the end-game mechanics. I would only get the game on sale. I wouldn't pay full price.. "To be, or not to be, that is the question:" which begins your Shakespearean adventure to attempt to kill your evil Uncle Claudius while fighting pirates, time travelling, becoming a ninja, playing death chess, having a singalong with a gravedigger, oh and turning yourself into a trout. (And you can have some stew in the mean time, and lots of making out, if you want)I'm a huge fan of "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories, I've studied and read Shakespeare's Hamlet and I'm a big fan of Ryan North's witty and snarky sense of humor. Put all that together and you have "To Be or Not To Be". In this game, you play as either Hamlet, Ophelia (BEST CHARACTER BY THE WAY), or Hamlet Sr (Yes, a ghost). The premise is simple, read along and make choices and create your own version of Hamlet. With so many choices, and some cringingly awesome puns, you control the fate of your character and his/her kin. The gameplay is fun, although, I wouldn't recommend it to someone who doesn't enjoy reading or appreciate Ryan North's brand of humor (snarky, sarcastic, and nerdy). Also, it can get a bit pedantic, so I also wouldn't recommend trying another story immediately after beating it the first time. While the gameplay doesn't have much artwork, like in a visual novel, certain plot elements allows you to unlock pieces of artwork create by a variety of webcomic artists. Music is charming but a bit repetitive and there is great narration (which you can turn on or off).It's a great game, but not necessarily for everyone; if you like to make your adventures with a nice dosage of nerdy humor, definitely pick up this game in a sale.. Only speaking from playing through (what I see as the whole Hamlet Sr. storyline), this is a choose-your-own-adventure version of Hamlet, except it's very funny, and has a sort of absurdist sense of humor and gets very meta. If you're a fan of Shakespeare or of choose your own adventure style games, this is definitely a really good choice. There are tons of moments where you will laugh out loud, but again, this is really if you get the sense of the humor the author of the game has. "You decided your son has to kill the king - because - why?". While playing this game in my head were such thoughts:- To be, or not to be, or be, or may be not, oh...start from checkpoint!- I wanna be Ophelia! Nope, that's kinda stunning, so what about Hamlet? oh OH that's nice, very nice, much more options and it seems like I make a progress in plot. - oh no, I'm in a plot-trap. 15 starts from the same checkpoin and no result, cause I'm still in that fckin room!!1- How about mmm to make out more? And more, I don't care about ghost of Hamlet Sr. I want that achievement!! Where it is??Summary: I like this game. But not adore. So - 7 litres of blood of 10. I loved how they took this story, took creative control and made this story funny and just overall entertaining. Come for the culture, stay for the achievements (and the puns).Well, my opinion is biased: I love classical litterature and I love CYOA books. I recommend this game for the explanation of Shakespeare's Hamlet and the narration, useful for non-native english speakers who want to learn.However, this game has some minor problems, like the very low amount of checkpoints and the broken stats. More oddly, I downloaded this game twice (once for my home computer and another time for my laptop) and the two versions are different..
